Sakhalin-1 Consortium Provides Portable Housing for Earthquake Victims
Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk, October 22, 2007 -- Exxon Neftegas Limited (ENL), on behalf of the Sakhalin-1 Consortium, announced today that it is transferring temporary housing to Nevelsk earthquake victims.“Our hearts and thoughts go out to the victims of the devastating August earthquake, who need ongoing assistance,” said James G. Taylor, Executive Vice President of Exxon Neftegas Limited (ENL). “We are pleased to help meet the pressing need for housing in our continuing support of the disaster relief effort."
The portable housing previously accommodated personnel constructing the Sakhalin-1
De-Kastri oil export terminal in Khabarovsk Krai. The fully furnished facilities can house up to 300 people. They are equipped with their own power generators, water tanks and sewage treatment plant.
Nevelsk residents will be staying in the facilities until permanent housing is constructed.
SakhalinMorNefteMontazh (SMNM), a construction subsidiary of Rosneft, will install the housing at Nevelsk as part of Rosneft’s contribution to the earthquake victims.
In addition to providing temporary housing for the displaced families, the Sakhalin-1 Consortium members made significant financial contributions to the victims. ENL, on behalf of Exxon Mobil Corporation, contributed $150,000, and Sakhalin Oil and Gas Development Co., Ltd. and ONGC Videsh Ltd. each contributed $100,000. Also, ENL employees supported Nevelsk residents with personal donations of money and clothing.
Information for Editors: The Sakhalin-1 Project includes the Chayvo, Odoptu, and Arkutun-Dagi Fields. Plans call for the production of approximately 307 million tons (2.3 billion barrels) of oil and 485 billion cubic meters (17 trillion cubic feet) of gas during the implementation of the project. In addition to Exxon Neftegas Limited (the operator of the project with a 30% stake), the Sakhalin-1 Project Consortium includes the Japanese company Sakhalin Oil and Gas Development Co., Ltd. (30%), the Indian company ONGC Videsh Ltd. (20%) and two Russian companies Sakhalinmorneftegaz-Shelf (11.5%) and RN-Astra (8.5%), both companies are Rosneft affiliates.
